Format

The basic course structure involves 5 sessions of 1 / 1.5 hours each (thereafter you can decide whether you need any extra coaching).

The basic format for each session is that I will teach the principles & technique and then we will practice together resolving any issues as we go along.

It is good to do the sessions on alternate days or with a small gap between formal lessons so that you can have some time to experiment. We can then deal with any issues that may have arisen during the next session.

Since mindfulness is a skill - just like riding a bike - practice plus good technique makes perfect and this alternate day approach provides the right level of intensity to ensure the technique becomes second nature.

What approach is taught?

My approach to mindfulness is secular. No belief system or religious ideas are involved. Mindfulness is a skill based training using a recognized and respected technique called ‘Vivation’. ‘Vivation’ is a system that was developed and taught by Jim Leonard. I have undertaken both personal sessions and Professional Vivation Teachers Training with Jim Leonard.

Are there any contra-indications?

Mindfulness meditation is not contraindicated for any mental or physical problem. In fact its health benefits have been extensively documented. It also forms the core of the so-called ‘Third Wave’ of psychotherapies: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
